Matrix Switching

LXIThe new 60-310 High-Voltage Matrix and the 60-510 LXI Low Thermal EMF Matrix are supplied with IVI, SOAP and Direct I/O drivers, and soft front panels that allow them to be controlled through any W3C compliant web browser. Each unit is contained within a 2U full-rack enclosure.

The 60-310 is a two-pole 300x2 switching matrix for hot-switching 500-VDC signals and cold-switching 1,000-VDC signals. The design uses Rhodium-plated reed relays.

The 60-510 is a 56x33 matrix capable of switching 150 VDC signals at currents up to 1 A. The matrix uses instrument-grade Ruthenium-sputtered relays to ensure a long service life while typically providing less than 2.5 mV of thermal EMF.

AC Power Management Switch

LXIThe The 60-200 Remote AC Power Management Switch applies AC power to any instrument or AC-powered device under exact programmatic control. A single AC supply connection to eight switched AC outlets provides power to all connected instruments. Each connection can be turned on or off including precise timing delays under programmatic control over an LXI-compliant connection or controlled completely through any W3C-compliant web browser.

The 60-200 can be programmed to power up and power down devices connected to it in any specified order. An emergency shutdown switch on the front panel also connects a remote emergency switch.

The 1U-high unit features relays specifically designed to ensure that the switching system can handle switching instruments with EMC filters that have a high inrush current.

Microwave Synthetic Instruments

Agilent Technologies has introduced a family of microwave synthetic instruments that supports the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) NxTest vision of flexible, modular, and configurable instrumentation. Synthetic instrumentation involves linking together individual hardware and software test modules to emulate standard instruments in a compact form factor. This common system architecture provides obsolescence protection by enabling the design of scalable automated test systems with the flexibility to accommodate new measurement capabilities as applications change.

The new instruments include the N8201A Downconverter, the N8221A Digitizer, the N8241A Arbitrary Waveform Generator, the N8212A Vector Upconverter, and the N8211A Analog Upconverter. All of the instruments will be LXI compliant.

The N8201A is a 26.5-GHz downconverter that provides IF output frequencies of 7.5, 21.4, and 321.4 MHz. External mixing can be used to downconvert signals up to 110 GHz. The 30-MS/s IF digitizer, the N8221A, has a 21.4-MHz IF input, a dynamic range of 80 dB, 14-b resolution, and a modulation bandwidth of 8 MHz.

The N8241A features a sampling rate of 1.25 GS/s and 15-b resolution, simultaneously. It has dual-channel, single-ended, and differential outputs with 500 MHz of instantaneous bandwidth per channel.

The 20-GHz vector upconverter, the N8212A, is a microwave source with greater than 2-GHz I/Q modulation bandwidth. It features AM, FM, and pulse modulation and multisource coherent carrier capability. The N8211A 20/40-GHz Analog Upconverter offers internal or external AM, FM, and pulse modulation capabilities along with high output power and low phase noise.
